SOFTBALL

As our name suggests we also play softball. The game is very similar to baseball in most respects, the main differences being that the ball is much bigger (about the size of a medium grapefruit) but interestingly the ball is not at all "soft". The gloves used tend to be bigger, which helps when catching the bigger ball. The softball bats tend to be a regular diameter through their length making it a bit easier to hit the ball. There are 10 fielding positions, the extra position is called the "Rover" and they play behind the second baseman & shortstop....Softball is generally a slower game and is suited for families and youngsters who want a slightly easier format but there are two types of softball, fast-pitch & slow-pitch...both pitching styles are underarm but in fast-pitch, the ball travels extremely quickly in more or less a straight line, slow-pitch is much more of a looping soft toss towards the batter....
